Philadelphia Job and Resource Fair

This Thursday, October 4th, there will be a Philadelphia job & resource fair at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. At the Philadelphia job & resource fair. To register for the fair, click on the link and share it amongst your family & friends!

#hirephilly #starbucks #careerwardrobe #morethancloth

You’ll get the opportunity to create your resume on-site, complete a job application, practice your interview skills with experts, and so much more! Participants will get connected to much-needed resources, such as information about job training programs.

If we want to tackle Philadelphia’s staggering 26% poverty rate, the federal minimum wage — $7.25/hour — needs to change, residents must be equipped with more in-demand skills and companies need to continue hiring individuals from the community.

Although poverty won’t diminish overnight, the job fair in Philadelphia is just one of the many tools in our toolbox that will help to lift people out of poverty throughout the city.

Dating Apps 101

#SlipperySockChronicles Dating Apps 101: Listen, Listen, Listen it’s hard out here to meet the right one. I’ve been on the online relationship circuit for many years. I started out with AOL messenger, then Yahoo Groups. Slowly as technology progressed I transitioned to MySpace, Black Planet and Migente (judge your mother! 😫) Fast forward to the new age and I tried out #BlackPeopleMeet, #EHarmony, #PlentyofFish, #Match, #Tinder, #Bumble, #CoffeeMeetsBagel, #TheLeague, #FaceBook and #OKCupid.

Now I know you’re thinking: Why aren’t you married yet? 🤣🤣🤣 Don’t be so hasty I met my ex-husband live and in person right outside a club called “Dinosaurs” in Laurel, Maryland. He was such a gentleman. He was the designated driver and was waiting to pick up his friend the night we met. I’ve had a few marriage proposals. Nothing like a man mailing a diamond ring from Iraq professing his love while he’s fighting a war. I met him in Hawaii through a mutual friend. It’s okay to switch it up and meet who you want to date using multiple avenues.

I’ve had great success online dating. I’m never without a date (when I choose to date). You have to be selective. No, don’t respond to every message if you don’t want to engage. Here’s my philosophy: You miss 100% of the opportunities you don’t take. Try it. Take a chance on love. Keep an open mind and an open heart. What’s the worst that could happen? Why not reflect on the best possibilities? You could meet the love of your life. Do something different. ❤️❤️❤️

Love,

Simply Ebony

DC Startup Week #DCSW 2018 Recap and Live-Streams!

Thank you for helping us make this the biggest DC Startup Week #DCSW yet! This was our third annual celebration with over 5,000 attendees throughout the DMV. The 5-day interactive week showcased hundreds of regional startups, entrepreneurs and the regions’ bustling ecosystem, helping to further foster growth within the local startup community.

DC Startup Week participants networked and gained knowledge by attending thought-provoking, informative and entertaining panels, pitch competition, hackathons, exhibitions and discussions put on by more than 50 collaborating organizations including The Mayor’s Office, several coworking places, startups, corporations, nonprofits and educational institutions.

We put together 120+ sessions with 220+ speakers in 33 locations across the city, Northern Virginia and Maryland in just one week! We couldn’t have done it without you.

We ended the week with a Pitch Competition where the local startup, Twenty Tables won cash prizes from DC Startup Week and in kind prizes from its sponsors Google Cloud, GSP, Silver Strategy, Alley Powered by Verizon and Metamer Productions.

We thank all the sponsors, speakers, participants, volunteers and venues who made this the most successful DC Startup Week to date. We can’t wait to see you at future events.
